The Theories are a collection of philosophical open source essays designed as meta tools for the reader to add their own ideas over time. The main intent of these essays is to encourage the reader to create. Or to think of things from another perspective. This can either be from an observation perspective like The Feedback Loop Theory or from a creative workflow system like The Mutual Muse Theory.
The story of how this writing came to be is a strange and winding road. Approximately two years ago I had an extremely bad case of Covid and for 4/5 months afterwards I became the most creative I had ever been. Insomnia does that to you. I started writing after a hiatus of 20 years, as I could not gain adequate employment in photography due to structural discrimination issues for female photographers, which unfortunately is still a huge issue currently. At that point I designed the VS photography concept to gather new employment opportunities, and the style of the photography pitches I wrote at the time formed the start of these essays. I also started to think of the world as purely energy and also actions we might not first see as energy, such as inspiration. This started me looking at all things as ‘systems’.
This long term creative block of not being able to shoot photos bore the fruits of The Theories, sometimes incredible obstacles can produce work you truly believe in. It can also form your most visceral and personal art. Since then I have not stopped writing and The Theories will continue…
These essays have now been up online for over a year with many people reading them. However I’m now at the point I will have to charge due to the above reasons and for me to continue writing. Currently The Feedback Loop Theory is complete and The Mutual Muse Theory will be completed by mid 2024. The Feedback Loop Theory will remain freely accessible. This is due to its original open source intention of always being freely available for artists, as stated on first publication back in November 2022. That particular essay is constantly evolving and two new chapters written this month have been added.
Introductions to: The Focus Theory/The Planet Music Theory/The Night Theory are all available behind this paywall and completion aim is the end of 2024 for The Focus Theory & The Planet Music Theory. Further essays planned include The Beauty Theory amongst other ideas flying around my brain as we speak.
This members only site was also created so I could have interaction with my readers, as these essays are open source they are designed to be collaborative long term. Therefore with this model of membership site I can push forward the main intention for The Theories
