SARAH GINN VS RUPTURE - THE AMEN BREAK UTOPIA

The VS project with Rupture came about after I was tasked by DJ Mantra to shoot a number of nights for Rupture. With past clients I had started to brand the photography with certain styles, in this case the visual styles came from the flyers of the night, with colour references from those individual flyers. Rupture often have guest artists designing their flyers, often from old rave days. With this type of VS, each night has a different vibe of picture, but still retaining the core branding style.

I choose this slow shutter effect due to the darkness of Corsica Studios and to also to reflect the colour of the above flyer references. Rupture is about dancing and feeling the groove of the music, getting immersed into it fully in a darkened room. This experience is about freedom and expression, about having your own personal and collective experience that’s not loud, it’s not about showing off, it’s not about being seen, it’s about the groove. So, the blurring of the crowd and elements of the club show this pictorially.

Other references that I used to apply this style include the images below by Edouard Decam where he has done very long shutter speeds to capture the movement of space telescopes, I took reference from some of the colours with those images. It would be an idea to do more of my long exposures in clubs of ten seconds or more such as the one below taken at Heaven. I may well do this in the future with coloured flashes to highlight the crowd as per the Deep Medi image with the multi-flash I have also included here.
